How Long Does Relationship Therapy Take?

How long does relationship therapy take? It depends on how quick you want things to change. How much effort do you want to put in? Are you making it a priority to go to therapy with your partner? What are your priorities?

Some couples come into a therapy session with a defeatist attitude and throw up their hands and say, “we’re never going to get this.”

Well, then, you are absolutely right. If you say you’re never going to get it, you won’t. If you say you will get it, you will. It’s all about how much time and effort you want to put into the relationship, into the practices/homework.

If everything is blamed on being busy, then you’re prioritizing other things, because there really is no such thing.

It’s just like the oxygen mask example on a plane… Oftentimes, couples with kids believe that they have to put the kids first. With life and death, yes, but day to day, no. It’s the relationship first, kids come second. If you’re not willing to do that and spend the time practicing, things will start to go awry.

Relationship Tip : have a sacred space where you can have all of your deep conversations, where you can sit and have eye contact. Maybe you create a place with photos of the two of you, with specials objects, or maybe it’s a certain place to meet and connect.

It’s all about conditioning in relationship – creating good consequences in behavior. When you give your relationship the importance / attention it needs, love stays strong.
