Common Reasons/Signs You May Need To Get Counseling for Depression

It’s never easy to admit that you’re struggling with depression.

It can be even more difficult to seek help for it, but sometimes the hardest decisions are some of the best decisions someone could make. There are many reasons why people might need counseling for their depression. But here are a few common signs:

1) You’ve been feeling down or sad for an extended amount of time.

Even if there have been good days mixed in, there has been little to no improvement in your mood over the last few weeks / months… If this sounds like you, then consider how therapy may be able to help.

2) You have trouble sleeping at night.

Insomnia is a symptom of depression – your brain not being able to shut off at night means that something is off balance in your life and needs attention.

3) You’ve been eating more or less than usual.

A change in appetite, especially a sudden one, is often associated with depression.

4) You can’t concentrate very well.

This symptom may be the result of your depressed mood, or it might be that depression is causing you physical pain that makes it difficult to focus.

5) You feel like everything is a big effort.

Feelings of sluggishness, not wanting to get out of bed, or exercise, or do the laundry, or clean…

6) You’ve been having thoughts of suicide or self-harm.

This sign should never be ignored or taken lightly. If you are feeling this way, please consider talking to an outside source to get help immediately.

7) You feel like nothing in your life is worth it.

This is one of the most common symptoms of depression, and it is very discouraging. It’s important to remember that things can get better, but you need to decide to get professional help to make that happen.

8) You’re pregnant or have a newborn.

Postpartum depression is a very real and serious thing, and it’s important to get help if you are experiencing it. There are many sources to assist in your healthy recovery to be the best you, and the best mom.

9) You’re struggling with a major life event.

If you are going through a major life event, such as the death of a loved one, a divorce, moving, etc., these events can be incredibly difficult to cope with on your own.
