Anger is a normal emotion that everybody feels, and sometimes it can serve you well. So when is it a problem? If it’s affecting your personal/work relationships because of things you’re saying or doing while in a fit of rage, or if you express yourself in inappropriate or harmful ways. This is when it’s time to get down to the bottom of it, face things, and move through them.
Anger becomes a problem when it gets out of control and harms you or people around you.
This can happen when you express anger through destructive behaviors such as road rage, getting into fights, punching walls, slamming doors, throwing objects, cursing at people, hurting people/animals, etc.
Issues with anger can lead to risky behavior, refusing to go to school, isolation, eating problems, depression, and self-harm.
Drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs might be seen as ways of coping with anger issues, but remember, they will make you feel even worse and are likely to create bigger problems later! It just compounds your issues and makes them more complex.
Counseling & Other Forms of Therapy Are a Great Way To Resolve Anger Issues
Counseling can help you identify triggers and develop strategies to manage them more effectively. You will learn to understand what exactly you’re feeling, why you’re feeling that way, and the causes behind it. You can learn to manage your anger and find techniques that work for you.
